In 2002 Marlies Eggermont completed her studies with a Bachelor of Midwifery at the Artevelde University College of Ghent. Although she loved working as a midwife, she was also fascinated by health law in all its perspectives. In 2006 she completed her study in law school at the University of Ghent. The last 2,5 academic years she worked as a midwife at a hospital in Brussels. Having seen the professional activity of a midwife and having learned the theoretical principles about (health) law, she started her legal training as a lawyer, focusing on health law and civil liability in general. In 2007 she also completed the study of aggregate in law to educate students. Since 2009 she is teaching the basic principles of (social) law in the Bachelor of Midwifery and Nursing at the Artevelde University College of Ghent. Since 2010 she has been educating the students of the first and second year Bachelor of Law on the sources of law (practical exercises). This engagement to the University of Ghent has led to the start of a Phd with the title: “The legal framework of the profession of the midwife in a historical perspective: a process of juridification and demonopolization
